As part of Royal College of Art + Villa Arson project, Heart of Darkness, I’ll be leading a workshop entitled ‘+ -‘ in which participatory, ‘performing’ diagrams are set loose in the tamed wilderness of Regent’s Park, London. This event is related to one of my recent performances, Live Diagramming.
I am also a guest mentor for postgraduate students from Royal College of Art (RCA) MA Sculpture and Villa Arson (France) MFA as part of the Heart of Darkness project.
More about the Heart of Darkness project:
The eponymous novella by Joseph Conrad is central to the inquiries of the project, which explores ideas about the relationships between landscape, myth and history, physical and psychological journeying, and the legacy of colonialism. The residency also provides time for individual reflection while at the same time common ground for production in the light of those explorations.
Heart of Darkness is planned to take place in London as a residency for 8 artists focusing on research, who have been selected from new post-graduates of both Royal College of Art, London and Villa Arson, France. During the week-long residency (July 2012), the artists are scheduled to meet with London-based international curators and artists. The 2012 residency will be followed by an 2013-13 exhibition and a publication funded by Villa Arson.
The aim of the project is to bring together two groups of young artists from two countries who are recent graduates seeking their place in the art world. The project is structured to function as a series of encounters between the students, the participating mentors and the associated encounters. The aim of the project is to provide a space of contemplation for the students in the immediate aftermath of their studies while speculating on various modes of future production.
