Constituting Institutions at The PUBLIC SCHOOL New York

The current ‘crisis of education’ forces us to reassess the question of what we want our educational institutions to do for us, and how we can/should act to produce these institutional realities; addressing the fact that collectively organising (self-) education today necessarily means constituting new institutions and reconstituting existing ones. In turn, this holds the hope of producing a more vital (polyphonic) institutional ‘landscape’ in the ongoing education of practicing artists.

Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau, Jonathan Hoskins and Lisa Skuret will engage with the theoretical and practical framework of the Public School to moderate an open conversation on the individual and collective organisation of artists’ self-education through the ongoing reconfiguration of the institutional contexts in which this takes place, in comparison to other models.
